Certified Translation

Do you need Latvian certified translation services? We have the specialists you need to do the job for you. The difference from an ordinary translation is as follows:

  •         We assign the document to a certified translator
  •         Translation is done according to special rules that prevent any omissions or distortions
  •         The final text is accompanied by the translator’s statement to certify the accuracy and completeness of the translation. It is signed and sealed to give it the status of an official document.

Quality Assurance

We have translators, editors, and proofreaders who will work on your text in turn. This is a classical industry sequence that yields good results, and we strictly follow this procedure.

Language Facts

  •         The most ancient written example of a text in the Latvian language is the 16th-century catechism.
  •         Latvian and Lithuanian stand apart as the only Baltic language family survivors.
  •         Latvian is easy to read: the stress is typically on the first syllable, and the words are pronounced as they are written.
  •         The script used in the Latvian language is a modified Roman: it has no q, w, x, or y, but has a lot of letters with diacritical signs.
  •         Latvian is the mother tongue of only about 60% of Latvia’s population due to a strong Russian immigration wave in the late 20th century. This fact made the country’s government adopt laws in the 1990s to protect the language, and they are now getting even a little bit tougher.
  •         Lettish is yet another word that denotes the Latvian language.
  •         The language is spoken by just under two million people.
  •         There are three dialects of Latvian, but the formal/literary language is based on only one of them (called the middle one).

Language Tips:

Avoid passive voice if you are not translating any highly academic literature – or a political speech where the leader is trying to avoid responsibility at all costs. The active voice looks better in 99% of cases.

Acronyms and abbreviations are a sore point for many translators and editors. Each translation agency is trying to elaborate its own rules and guidelines, but there is still something to discuss here. We at HumanTranslation use a simple approach: · If the abbreviation is encountered in the document about fifty times, use it just to save space. · If the abbreviation is commonly known, there is no problem with that: just use it as much as you want. · However, avoid inventing your own abbreviations used in the text once or twice: write the full text instead. You will greatly simplify the editor’s and reader’s work!

If you see a bright metaphor in the text, think twice. The main thing for the reader is the meaning, not the beauty of a particular metaphor! It’s good if you can easily preserve it, but don’t worry if you can’t. Clarity is the only thing that should never be sacrificed, while the rest is debatable.
