Certified and Notarized Translation

Do you need to translate documents from Macedonian to English, for instance, and have them certified? Or maybe notarized? You can just send them to us and get back what you need. However, if you want to know the difference between certified and ordinary translation, here it is:

  •         We will assign your document to a certified translator
  •         The translation is done according to special rules: there is no place for omissions or inaccuracies here, and the beauty of expression may be sacrificed for literal translation. And this is OK if you deal with documents that will later serve as a basis for making important decisions!
  •         The translator makes up an affidavit, signs and seals it to certify that the translation is accurate and complete.

If you need notarization, this is just another step: the notary establishes the translator’s identity and confirms that the affidavit was compiled by this person. The notary has no competence to check the quality of translation or any other similar parameters.

Language Facts

  •         Macedonian belongs to a group of Slavic languages, and the number of speakers amounts to about 2 million.
  •         Its grammar was developing in its own peculiar way, though, which explains why there are no cases in Macedonian (unlike other Slavic languages, except for Bulgarian).
  •         The grammar is, nevertheless, complicated enough to give a headache to any foreign language student. For instance, prepositions follow no rules at all!
  •         The alphabet used to write in Macedonian is Cyrillic. However, there are letters peculiar only to this language: ќ, ѓ, and s.
  •         There is a salad served in France and Italy, and it is called “Macedonia”. What makes the country similar to a salad? Well, it’s the multitude of influences it had! On the one hand, it has more Latin words in its vocabulary than any other language. On the other hand, it has a lot of Turkish impacts. And still, it’s a Slavic language! All that creates a peculiar mixture – so you may call it a salad as well!

Language Tips:

Always ask the customers for the language version they need (or at least about the target audience). Some customers think it’s natural that you should translate and yield a text with a global appeal, while others may want a text without local color to be distributed in a particular locality(!). There are just things that should be asked and explained, and this is where human relations in business may be built – not always through impeccable service, but sometimes through conflicts successfully resolved.

Never invent abbreviations. If they do exist and you can easily google them, that’s one thing. If this is an in-house abbreviation that will be used in the document one hundred times, it’s OK to invent one – but, of course, it should be deciphered and it should sound well to the ear and look well, too! However, an uncommon abbreviation mentioned once or twice does not even deserve to be mentioned in brackets – just write the name in full and forget about it.
