Certified Russian Translation

If you need certified Russian translation services, HumanTranslation can be your reliable provider. We have translators with relevant credentials who can provide certified translations made according to special rules.

In what cases do you need certified document translation? Well, if the translation is expected to be submitted to an official institution, like college, court or tax authority, or a person acting in any official capacity, like an attorney or your representative of any kind, you will need a certified translation.

If the document is intended for internal use only and will be distributed, for example, to company employees or stakeholders only, a standard translation will do in most cases.

What is the difference between standard and certified translation?

Well, when you need to submit your document to an official, the latter usually has to make a decision based on its contents. This requires to be reasonably assured that the document contains no misrepresentations or omissions due to unreliable translation. That’s why a certified translation is accompanied with a special statement (also known as affidavit).

The statement is composed by the translator and contains guarantees of completeness and accuracy of the text in the target language and absence of any omissions, misrepresentations of facts, or any corrections that could mislead the official in any way. The statement usually contains the translator’s initials, signature, and seal. Needless to say, the expert should be authorized to make certified translations.

Language Facts

  1. Russian is a major widespread language that is the mother tongue of approximately 154 million people, and it occupies 8th place in the world.
  2. Russian has the status of an official language in four countries: Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
  3. International Space Station computers use both English and Russian, and it’s no wonder that astronauts learn both languages as part of their training.
  4. Well-known Russian borrowings include sputnik, samovar, taiga, mammoth, and, of course, the renowned (or notorious?) vodka.
  5. There are words in Russian that can hardly be translated, and one of these is Pochemuchka. It usually refers to children aged about five who ask a lot of questions beginning with Why (Pochemu), but it can also denote an adult person who does the same.
  6. Russian is considered one of the most difficult languages in the world to learn. And while basic command of the language is quite a feasible task, mastering the language thoroughly with all its richness and vocabulary is sometimes a challenge even for native speakers, let alone foreigners!
  7. All Russian words that begin with a are loaned words.
  8. Russian words can have three letters e in a row, which looks quite unusual! For instance, змееед (snake-eagle).

Language Tips:

As the Russian sentence can be built in an absolutely chaotic way from the viewpoint of more structured languages like English, you should look for logical stress in the sentence to translate it correctly. Remember that new information tends to appear at the end of the Russian sentence, while you will normally put it at the start in English (A man entered the gate. – В калитку вошел мужчина.)

Context and common sense are everything, while dictionary meaning is nothing – if you really want to translate appropriately. For instance, take the Russian word тоска. The common dictionary meaning would be depression or melancholy. And it would be easier to prove the customer you translated correctly than if you rely on common sense! However, the expression тоска зеленая is not about any deep-rooted melancholy but rather about feeling bored as there is nothing exciting to do. And this is just one example to show that Russian is all about reading between (and beyond!) the words, and strict glossaries may sometimes be more confusing than useful.

Punctuation in Russian and English differs a lot, which means there is almost no use trying to check it using some automatic QA tool. These things have to be checked manually by competent editors and proofreaders to ensure a high-quality text.
